Second Chef – Bustling Village Pub – The Red Lion

Position Type: Full-Time / Part-Time (negotiable)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

 

The Red Lion is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Second Chef to join our passionate kitchen team at our bustling village pub. Renowned locally for our high-quality, freshly prepared food, we pride ourselves on delivering an exceptional dining experience to both locals and visitors alike.

 

About the Role:
As Second Chef, you will work closely with the Head Chef to maintain our excellent culinary standards and ensure the smooth running of the kitchen. You’ll be involved in preparing a variety of dishes using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, contributing to menu development, and ensuring food safety and hygiene standards are upheld.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head Chef and management team with the daily operation of the kitchen.
  • Prepare and cook dishes to a consistently high standard.
  • Assist with menu planning, stock control, and ordering.
  • Maintain excellent food hygiene and kitchen safety standards.
  • Help train and mentor junior kitchen staff.
  • Bring creativity and fresh ideas to the menu.
  • Take charge of the kitchen on two days per week.

 

About You:

  • Previous experience in a similar role or as a strong commis chef or culinary student ready to step up.
  • A passion for cooking with fresh, high-quality ingredients.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • A team player with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Relevant food hygiene and safety qualifications (Level 2 preferred).
